PGY-1

The program for the PM&R intern year consists of four-week rotation periods as follows: Internal Medicine (four rotations); Neurology (two rotations); Orthopedics (two rotations); Pediatrics, PM&R, Neurosurgery, and General Surgery (one rotation each). Our department shall be proactive in monitoring the educational progress of PGY-1 residents who are completing internship training at the University of Kentucky.

Internal Medicine

Four months of general internal medicine wards at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center and/or Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with supervision by upper level internal medicine residents and rotating faculty.

Neurology

Two months of neurology wards (stroke service and general neurology service) at The University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center and/or Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with supervision by upper level neurology residents and rotating faculty.

Orthopedic Surgery

Two months of inpatient ward service at the University of Kentucky Hospital and/or Veterans Affair Medical Center, with supervision by upper level orthopedic resident and rotating faculty. This rotation consits of post-operative patient care and emergency room evaluations.

Pediatrics

One month of general outpatient pediatric rotation at UK Kentucky Clinic South, with supervision by upper level pediatric residents and rotating faculty.

PM&R

One month of outpatient and/or PM&R consults at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, with direct supervision by PM&R attending faculty. Resident with see patients in inpatient and outpatient setting and participate in PM&R specific procedures including intrathechal baclofen pump management and neurolytic injections.

Neurosurgery

One month of inpatient care on a busy neurosurgery service at the University of Kentucky Hospital, supervised by upper level neurosurgery residents and rotating faculty. This rotation includes ward care with close supervision by neurosurgery residents and faculty.

General Surgery

One month of inpatient care on a general/trauma surgery service at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. This rotation includes management of post-operative wound care with close supervision by surgery residents and faculty.
